Koby International Academy was founded in 1993 to serve the Japanese community in the Greater Detroit area.
At first it was a small sized learning center for Japanese speaking children who have recently arrived in the United States, or those who have stayed in the United States for some years but must return to Japan in accordance with the relocation of their parents' jobs.
Most of the classes were set up during the after-school hours or on Saturdays.
The educational goal was to improve academic skills in both English and Japanese.
To accomplish this goal we have faithfully adopted and implemented the most advanced theory of bilingual education available in the academic circles.
The enrollment steadily increased to reach a point where expansion of the facility as well as the staff came to be necessitated within the first several years.
On this occasion we have decided to embark on more ambitious projects to accommodate the various needs of Japanese speaking children.
