  • Community School is a secular, independent school serving students ages three through fourteen for almost 50 years. Our school is the recipient of a national Best Practices Honoree award from the American Psychological Association.
  • We use an experiential approach: students learn by doing and acquire the skills to apply their knowledge in real-world situations.
  • We value the whole child and seek to develop each student's individual gifts while encouraging self-reliance, critical thinking and creativity. We respect the social, emotional, physical and intellectural needs of each child.
  • Community School enjoys longstanding partnerships with its sister institution Community High School and with Hollins University.
  • Our students benefit from studying Spanish, music, drama, visual art, and technology. They enjoy frequent off-campus and outdoor learning opportunities.
  • In 2022 Community Schoolwas named to the Association forMiddle Level Education (AMLE) Schools of Distinction program. It is one of only 12 schools worldwide to receive this honor in the inaugural year of the program, which is designed to both recognize exemplary schools and guide them through a process of strategic vision setting to help foster ongoing growth and success.
