My son has been at Blue School since K. I looked at a range of schools, traditional, progressive, and everything in between (which many private schools end up being, at least in elementary). It's an inquiry-based program that ask kids to think deeply and to question, something that does not come easily to my son, but it's the type of education I was hoping for and the challenge he needs. Academics are taught in an engaging way, taking children's development and interest into account without sacrificing rigor. There are no grades and testing starts gradually, assessments are ongoing, narrative reports are insightful and have been spot on from year to year for my son. Kids learn how to present their work early and as they get older reflect on their learning strengths and weaknesses. Technology is used in a balanced way. Nice kids, smart families. And the newer middle school is strong, high school placements have been very positive. If you are looking for a challenging progressive school that looks at the whole child, it's an amazing place.
